A polished prompt can still ask the wrong question. Before opening a chat, spend a minute deciding what you need to understand.

A checklist for a clearer starting point

  • What am I actually trying to decide or create?
  • What do I already know, and what am I assuming?
  • What information could change my mind?
  • What would a useful answer let me do next?

A better question gives the answer somewhere useful to go.

Make the request concrete

Instead of “Give me a good app idea,” try “Help me identify one repetitive problem in how I organize my study notes. Ask about my current process before suggesting a solution.”

Leave room to disagree

Ask for the strongest objection to your first idea. Then examine the objection yourself. The aim is to make your thinking more inspectable, rather than collecting agreement.
